He was christened in Upper Craigie, Dumfries, Scotland. Future Research: I am still searching for the marriage entry. The Old Parish Records will be available in 1993. Upper Craigie is near Moffat to the north of Dumfries. Research the Sasine records. As per DA/951 Bpt 25-6-1758 Witnesses Robert Jelly & Archibald Pagan

John Smith and Jane Oliver had the following children:

4 i. Alexander³ Smith was born in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland about 1780. Alexander died about 1843 in China. As per notes of George Franklin Smith; There was a Alexander Smith in the 91st regiment of foot the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at the Batle of Waterloo. He was supposed to have been killed in action in China. I am checking on the British attack on Canton in 1841-1842
