He married Sarah Stoneham Hunt in Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia, May 28, 1864. Sarah was born in London, England 1845. Stationmaster at Albury on the Murray River as per JAS letters. Note that he was at Broughton Creek until 1872. Then no further trace. Noted as being 47 at mothers death in 1875. Researched the files of Railway workers at Kingswood Archives no result.

Robert Smith and Sarah Stoneham Hunt had the following children:

29 i. Janette⁵ Smith was born in Tomerong, New South Wales, Australia February 2, 1865. Janette died February 23, 1866 in Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia, at 1 year of age.

30 ii. Sarah Stoneham Smith was born in Broughton Crk, New South Wales, Australia August 7, 1866.

31 iii. William Robert Smith was born in Broughton Crk, New South Wales, Australia June 5, 1868.

32 iv. Thomas Buchanan Smith was born in Broughton Crk, New South Wales, Australia May 29, 1870.

33 v. Janette Harriett Smith was born in Broughton Crk, New South Wales, Australia September 30, 1872. NSW BDM.
