He married Eleanor Oakes in Australia, September 5, 1876. Eleanor was born in Macleay River, New South Wales, Australia January 10, 1855. Eleanor was the daughter of Augustus John Oakes and Janet Johnston. Eleanor died September 21, 1889 at 34 years of age. Seven children, 2 girls, twins Het and Ruby and three boys.

John Robert Snodgrass and Eleanor Oakes had the following children:
