He married Margaret Allison in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland, about 1810/1815. Margaret was born in Dumfries, Scotland. Margaret died about 1875 in Tomerong, New South Wales, Australia. Her body was interred about 1875 in Tomerong, New South Wales, Australia.

He was christened in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland.

William Smith and Margaret Allison had the following children:

5 i. Robert⁴ Smith. Robert died in Albany, New South Wales, Australia. His body was interred in Albany, New South Wales, Australia. Stationmaster at Albany on the Murray River.

6 ii. Thomas Buchanan Smith was born in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland. Thomas died in New South Wales, Australia. His body was interred in New South Wales, Australia. This is the gentleman that had just got married and went to sea accidently when tha ship sailed. His new wife was given passage to Australia but he missed her again since he returned to England. It is uncertain when they reunited.

7 iii. Jannet Smith. She married Robert Todd in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland, January 24, 1836. Robert was born in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland. (See Robert Todd for the continuation of this line.)

She was christened in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland, June 6, 1813.

8 iv. William Smith was born in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland. He was christened in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland, November 3, 1816.

9 v. Arthur Smith. Arthur died in Manning River, New South Wales, Australia.

+ 10 vi. John Smith was born March 27, 1815.

11 vii. Alexander Smith was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England about 1818. Supposed to have joined the Horse Artillery.

+ 12 viii. William Smith was born December 27, 1833.
