10. John⁴ Smith (William³, John², William¹) was born in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland March 27, 1815. John died September 26, 1888 in Violet Bank, Nowra, New South Wales, Australia, at 73 years of age. His body was interred September 27, 1888 in Presbyterian Cem, Nowra, New South Wales, Australia.

He married Jane Eliza Smith in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, 1837. Jane was born in Blackfriars Road, Southwark, Middlesex, England January 26, 1822. Jane died February 23, 1916 in Violet Bank, Nowra, New South Wales, Australia, at 94 years of age. Her body was interred February 25, 1916 in Presbyterian Cem, Nowra, New South Wales, Australia.

He was christened in Dumfries, Dumfries, Scotland, March 28, 1815. This family was researched by Mrs Carlile in Heber City Utah. John has been listed as a Constable and in later life as working on the Berry Estate. Typically a Constable usually had prior military service. His will is very literate and extensive. Some error in the family history concerning his arrival date. He married in Tasmania in 1837. The rest of his family came out in 1841 on the Brothers. John might have been in the Army? His son describes him as a quiet and silent man that new the land, and how to graft etc. He had a great judjement for animals. He was the first settler in Nowra. She married Fredrick Watkins in New South Wales, Australia, after 1860. Fredrick was born in London, England about 1850. Fredrick died in Gerringong, New South Wales, Australia. 14 ii. Smith Juliett was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia June 2, 1844. She married Edward Perry in Nowra, New South Wales, Australia, after 1860. (See Edward Perry for the continuation of this line.)

15 iii. Eliza Smith was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia February 15, 1846. Eliza was married twice but had no children.

16 iv. Mary Warner Smith was born in Jamberro, New South Wales, Australia December 23, 1847. Mary died after 1900 in Newtown, New South Wales, Australia. She married James Gerrett in Nowra, New South Wales, Australia, after 1867. James died after 1900 in Nowra, New South Wales, Australia. (See James Gerrett for the continuation of this line.)

17 v. Agnes Smith was born in Jamberroo, New South Wales, Australia April 12, 1849. Agnes died after 1900 in Strathfield, New South Wales, Australia. Married a Sailor man and moved the Strathfield.

18 vi. Emma Smith was born in Jamberroo, New South Wales, Australia May 6, 1851. Emma died in Newtown, New South Wales, Australia.
