Kate was the daughter of John Smith and Jane Eliza Smith. Kate died September 20, 1956 in Wentworth Falls, New South Wales, Australia, at 92 years of age. Her body was interred 1956 in Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia.

Herbert Walter Perry and Kate Alice Smith had the following children:

Her body was interred 1981 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. She married Francis Oliver Virtue in Bangalow, New South Wales, Australia, January 12, 1921. Francis was born in Bangalow, New South Wales, Australia August 25, 1898. Francis died June 28, 1985 in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, at 86 years of age.
