2. Matthew2 Oakes (Matthew1) was born in Portsea, Hants, England February 25, 1710. Matthew died November 6, 1779 in Portsmouth, Hants, England, at 69 years of age.

He married Mary Whitewood in Saint Thomas, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, July 24, 1746. Mary was born in Portsmouth, Hants, England March 16, 1722. Mary was the daughter of Joshua Whitewood and Rebecca (Unknown). Mary died October 6, 1781 in Portsea, Hants, England, at 59 years of age. Matthew Oakes and Mary Whitewood had the following children:

child 3 i. Ann3 Oakes was born May 9, 1747. Ann died May 19, 1781 at 34 years of age. She married Benjamin Choyee Sowden Rev`D in St Thomas, Winton, Dorset, England, March 12, 1778.

child 4 ii. Mary Oakes was born September 15, 1748. Mary died March 13, 1781 at 32 years of age. She married Thomas Parry July 2, 1767. Thomas was born October 23, 1732. \i0 Oakes-Parry branch of Oakes Family.

child 5 iii. Richard Oakes was born October 8, 1750. Richard died April 1, 1779 at 28 years of age. Under Secretary of State Northern Dept. Ambassador to Russian Court. Mary McIver has a picture of him.

child + 6 iv. Thomas Oakes was born October 23, 1752.

child 7 v. Lucy Oakes was born December 26, 1753. She married John Bayley Rev`D.

child 8 vi. George Oakes Capt was born in Portsmouth, Hants, England April 9, 1755. George died September 9, 1797 at 42 years of age. He married Julia Crauford in St George`s, Hanover Square, London, England, June 2, 1788. Lieutenant 6/Jan/1776, Commander 28/Nov/1781 Captain 14 April 1783. In the "Prince of George"; Flagship of Admiral Digby from 1779 to 1781. Commanded Circe in 1791.

child 9 vii. Fanny Oakes was born September 2, 1756. Fanny died 1807 at 50 years of age.

child 10 viii. Elizabeth Oakes was born September 2, 1756. Elizabeth died 1810 at 53 years of age.

child 11 ix. Robert Oakes was born April 10, 1758.

child 12 x. Matthew Oakes was born February 23, 1763. He was christened in Saint Thomas, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, February 23, 1763.
