He married Margaret Emily Johnston September 7, 1891. Margaret was born in Dingo Creek, Manning River, New South Wales, Australia February 20, 1861. Margaret was the daughter of James Johnston and Eliza Ann Isabella_grieve Waugh. Margaret died December 31, 1948 at 87 years of age.
Thomas Henry Oakes and Margaret Emily Johnston had the following children:

Mary Susette7 Oakes was born July 20, 1882. Mary died May 5, 1971 at 88
years of age. She married Gualtar Charles Hubert Mciver September 28, 1910. Gualtar was born September
