16. George⁵ Johnston (Patrick⁴, George³, Patrick², William¹) was born in Middlestots, West Newton, Berwickshire, Scotland before March 7, 1773.

He married Elizabeth Hogarth in Scotland, about 1808. Elizabeth was born in Scotland.

He was christened in Whitsome Parish, West Newton, Berwickshire, Scotland, March 7, 1773. George moved as a tenant farmer to Stichell Esatfields, Berwickshire. A farm of 515 acres. The 1851 census notes he was still living there. Death and burial places are not known.

George Johnston and Elizabeth Hogarth had the following children:

26 ii. Elizabeth Johnston was born in "stichell Est", Stichell, Roxburgshire, Scotland 1810. Elizabeth died December 27, 1888 in Roxburgh Street, Kelso, Berwickshire, Scotland, at 78 years of age. Her body was interred December 27, 1888 in Kelso Abbey, Kelso, Berwickshire, Scotland. She married John Rutherford in Scotland, after 1830. John is the son of Archibald Rutherford and Isabella Stevenson. Her home "Hilton Mye" still exists today in Kelso. Their earlier home was at 18 Priorbank Street.

27 iii. Patrick Johnston was born in Stichell, Roxburgshire, Scotland 1811.

28 iv. John Johnston was born in Stichell, Roxburgshire, Scotland February 2, 1815. John died April 29, 1895 in Scotland, at 80 years of age. In business as a saddler, ironmerchants and rope maufacturers. Probably in Kelso.

+ 29 v. James Johnston was born May 24, 1818.

30 vi. Agnes Johnston was born in Stichell, Roxburgshire, Scotland 1821.
